Overview

The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in promoting an employee-focused, high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, exceptional guest service, and operational excellence. This position supports a variety of human resources functions, including compensation and benefits administration, short-term and long-term disability claims management, and the preparation of weekly and monthly compliance audits, including AGLC licensing, ProServe certification, and probationary period tracking.

 

The Human Resources Generalist is also responsible for coordinating and facilitating employee training programs, including the Resort's weekly new hire orientation. In addition, this role will participate in and lead various short-term projects as assigned.

 

The HR Generalist is expected to proactively identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to the Director of Human Resources. They will also communicate any issues or concerns that may impact the effective operation of the Human Resources department or the casino as a whole.

 

The Generalist will work cooperatively with the other members of the Human Resources Department.

Responsibilities

Recruitment

  • Facilitate in New Hire Orientation, to educate new hires in all aspects of the Resort

Employee Relations and Recognition

  • Works closely with the Director of HR on integrity issues
  • Work closely with the Director of HR on investigations including proper reporting of investigations (summary report, recommendations)

Training & Development

  • Conduct training sessions as required
  • Track Training as required

Compensation and Benefits

  • Assist in administering company sponsored benefits plans and educating associates on the benefit plan

Administrative & Other Responsibilities 

  • Assist with the Associate Engagement annual surveys
  • Support the annual minimum wage increase review
  • Special projects as assigned

Other

  • To look out for the safety of yourself, co-workers and to follow all Health and Safety requirements in the workplace
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management is required
  • Competency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point.
  • Strong knowledge of HRIS systems
  • Facilitation experience is necessary
  • Ability to write and communicate effectively
  • Minimum of three years related working experience in an HR environment in a medium to large organization, preferably working with diverse cultures and especially First Nations communities.
  • Proven superior communication, inter-personal, and organizational skills background in order to effectively coordinate the day-to-day human resources generalist workload efficiently.
  • A track-record of effective human resources customer service to a number of departments with competing needs and providing sound advice on sensitive matters.

The incumbent will normally work standard weekday hours but as an HR Generalist, there may be the need to work evenings or weekends, or travel, if the situation presents itself.
